In April 2006, government offices made plans to build 15 hydropower stations along the Botiao River. The Botiao River is the source of water for Chengdu’s Number 6 Waterworks, and a hydropower station on the banks of the river would threaten this source of drinking water. Because of this, CURA started the “Protect the Botiao River- Chengdu’s Drinking Water Source” operation. Using news and media, as well as holding a forum on the subject, they managed to bring together a wide range of people to participate in protecting the Botiao River, and conducted river surveys in order to compile a report on protecting the Botiao River and sustainable development. Qinghua University School of Public Administration held up this work as a prime example of NGOs working together with the government to reach a decision.
